Relaxation. Restoration. Reconnection.
The meaning of connection has been changed and life in the physical world has been traded for the light of a screen; leaving us to navigate our way through a landscape that promises connection while leaving us lost in isolation.
I, Azim Alkhatib, LMT born in 1998 am a member of a generation raised in the transition. A kid in the late-2000s, I watched the slow disintegration of face-to-face interaction as technology began to mediate our relationships. By my adolescent years and into young adulthood throughout the 2010s, the rapid development of social media redefined the meaning of “connection”, replacing physical touch with “double taps” and authentic interactions with algorithmically driven echoes. Then came 2020 and along with it the profound stillness of the Coronavirus pandemic which seemed to have stripped away the remaining threads of our physical world, leaving us to navigate a reality where we are statistically more connected, yet more alone than ever.
As a licensed massage therapist, I recognize that this void is felt deeply, yet rarely spoken of. For many, the nervous system has been permanently set to fight or flight tethered to the constant digital stimulation, while lacking the physical. We are in an era of touch-deprived individuals, carrying the weight of experiences in our minds, muscles and fascia; yet disconnected from our own anatomy that allows us to experience the joys of being human.
My practice is a rebellion against this trend. I understand the toll that our modern era takes on the body. I believe that intentional, skilled touch is not a luxury—it is a physiological necessity. By grounding the nervous system through therapeutic bodywork, I help facilitate the reconnection of the mind to the body. Reclaim your sense of being through the power of human connection. Together, we move back into the sanctuary of the body, the mind and the soul.
